Australian Time Zones
AEST (UTC+10) — NSW, VIC, QLD, TAS, ACT
ACST (UTC+9:30) — SA, NT
AWST (UTC+8) — WA
Daylight Saving
Observe DST: NSW, VIC, TAS, ACT, SA. Clocks go forward 1 hour on the first Sunday in October and back on the first Sunday in April.
Do NOT observe DST: QLD, WA, NT. These states and territories stay on standard time year-round.
Note
This converter uses standard-time offsets. During DST, select the summer variant (e.g. AEDT instead of AEST) for accurate results.
Meeting Planner Tip
Best overlap windows for common routes:
AEST 8:00 AM = PST 2:00 PM (prev day)
AEST 8:00 AM = GMT 10:00 PM (prev day)
AEST 5:00 PM = IST 12:30 PM
AEST 9:00 AM = JST 8:00 AM
For AU-US meetings, try AEST 8–10 AM (US evening). For AU-UK, try AEST 6–8 PM (UK morning).
The formula
Convert time:
Target = Source - SourceOffset + TargetOffset
Or simply: add the difference
Example (AEST to AWST):
3:00 PM - 10 + 8 = 1:00 PM
Difference: -2 hours
Australia spans three main time zones: Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST, UTC+10), Australian Central Standard Time (ACST, UTC+9:30), and Australian Western Standard Time (AWST, UTC+8). During daylight saving time, states that observe DST move one hour ahead — so AEST becomes AEDT (UTC+11) and ACST becomes ACDT (UTC+10:30). Queensland, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory do not observe DST.
To convert between time zones, find the UTC offset for each zone and calculate the difference. For example, AEST is UTC+10 and AWST is UTC+8, so Perth is always 2 hours behind Sydney. When daylight saving is in effect in the eastern states, the gap widens to 3 hours. Our converter handles all the maths — just select your zones and enter a time.
